Library Renovation Project

Big changes are coming to the Library in 2011 and 2012! Keep your eyes and ears open for these changes throughout the building.

All Floors:

New Signage: Eye-catching, jargon-free signage will be placed throughout the building.

1st Floor (See Layout)

Research Commons: The Reference Area is becoming the Research Commons -- a place to access, collaborate, create, and get help. The Commons will feature sixteen new collaborative computer workstations, modern, flexible furnishings, and expert technical staff and research librarians. Coming Fall 2011.

TeamSpot: Located in the Research Commons on the 1st Floor, the TeamSpot will feature wall-mounted large screen monitors attached to a PC running software capable of displaying several laptops at once. Sharing ideas with your study partners is easier than ever. Coming Fall 2011.

The Lounge: Located on the 1st floor near the Technology Services Desk, The Lounge features soft seating, newspapers, popular magazines, and a collection of NY Times Bestsellers that you may check out for 2 weeks. Eventually, The Lounge will also be home to three ceiling mounted televisions displaying headline news. Coming Fall 2011.

Copy Center and Technology Services renovation: A new wall will divide the Copy Center in half to allow Technology Services room for a new large-format printer, a color printer, and additional loaner laptops. Vending machines will be added to the Copy Center. Coming Fall 2011.

2nd Floor

Meeting Place 2 , Room 248: The Meeting Place is a semi-enclosed space large enough to accomodate 12 people. It will feature flexible furniture and movable whiteboard partitions. A laptop may be checked out from the Digital Media Studio and hooked up to a large screen wall-mounted monitor. Current MTSU students, faculty, and staff may reserve the Meeting Place for 3 hours at a time up to a month in advance. Coming Fall 2011.

Group Zone, Room 248: The large study room will feature additional group-friendly furniture and group computing spaces.

Presentation Practice Rooms: Two large group study rooms on the 2nd floor (248B and 262B) are equipped with large wall-mounted monitors and recording devices to allow students to practice and record presentations.

DMS Training Room: Room 201D in the Digital Media Studio. Students, faculty, and staff can receive training on PCs or Macs for any of the multimedia software used in the DMS. Users can also reserve the room as a Skype/Webinar space or for green screen recording.

3rd Floor

Enhanced Quiet Zones: New soft seating with tablet arms and ottomans in the Quiet Zones.

4th Floor

Enhanced Quiet Zones: New soft seating with tablet arms and ottomans in the Quiet Zones.

Meeting Place 4, Room 446: The 4th floor Meeting Place will be a semi-enclosed presentation and meeting space within a large study room. It will feature flexible seating to accomodate 30 people, movable whiteboard partitions, and a large ceiling-mounted monitor for use with a personal or borrowed laptop.

Additional Group Study Rooms: Partitions will be added to the open space in 464 on the east side of the building, creating 4 new group study rooms.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors

New chairs for computer workstations and all group study rooms.

Group Study Rooms: Computers and acoustic panels added to all group study rooms.
