Two Types of Article Indexes
Which article index to use depends upon your topic.

1. General Article Indexes

  •  Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
  •  Currently in the news?

If so, start with one of the general article indexes. These cover a wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Indexes articles from magazines, journals and newspapers on many topics. Most are full text.
Academic Search Premier This is a multidisciplinary index (AKA database) that contains abstracts and full text articles in just about any subject area. Most of the articles are from scholarly journals, popular magazines or trade publications. Academic Search Premier also includes some newspaper content.
