Why use books? The Internet has everything ... right?

While it's true that there is a lot of great information online, books are by no means obsolete. Sometimes your instructor will specifically ask you to use books for a paper. When is a book useful for research?

Use a Book

  • when looking for a lot of information on a topic
  • to put your topic in context with other important issues
  • to find historical information
  • to find summaries of research to support an argument
  • to find references to relevant journal articles at the ends of chapters
