Services for MTSU Staff

You might not be taking classes, but you still have information needs. Whether you’re looking to further your career, learn more about a hobby, or help your child with homework, James E. Walker Library has the resources to help. If you like to read just for the fun of it, the library has many popular authors, bestsellers and current magazines.

Borrowing Privileges

Staff may have 10 books out at a time. The checkout period for books is 4 weeks, and the books may be renewed one time. You will need your staff ID card to check books out at the Circulation desk. You may renew books online through your library account. Magazines are used in the library.

Electronic Resources

Staff has unrestricted use of most library databases. If you’re on campus, you can access the available databases from any computer. If you’re off campus, use your Pipeline user name and password to access the databases.

Reference Assistance

You can ask questions and receive personal assistance from librarians. Call or visit the reference desk, or email a librarian by using the E-mail a Librarian form.

Computers

Staff may use any of the 300 public computers in the library. Computers are located on the first floor in Reference and on each of the other floors. Printing is available from any sit-down workstation. Software includes Internet Explorer, Firefox, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel and Powerpoint. There is a scanner on the computer named “Wouk” in the EIC. Black and white laser printers are available on each floor.
You may use your own laptop in the Library. The Library has network connections for laptops throughout the public reading areas. Using a 10BaseT network card, you can access the campus network and the Internet using any of the several hundred data jacks in the building. The Library is also part of the MTSU wireless network. You may also use the wireless network if you computer has a wireless card. You must register your computer with the campus ITD department before you can take advantage of this service.

Adaptive Technology

The Adaptive Technology Center, located on the first floor of the library, offers access to hardware and software tools for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.

Library Giving Opportunities

As university staff, you can help strengthen the educational opportunity for the students through Library Support.

Honor a Student

Through the Student Book Honor program, alumni, family, and friends can highlight individual achievement for a current student while, at the same time, enhancing library resources for all students. Book honor awards go directly toward purchasing books for the Library. The name of the donor and the honoree will be placed on a placard within the purchased book(s). For more information see the Student Book Honor page.

Memorial Book Program

Through the Memorial Book program, books or money to purchase books can be donated as a lasting tribute to someone. The donor’s name and name of the honoree will be placed inside the book.
