Study Spaces and More

The library offers a variety of spaces for collaborative and quiet study.

Reserve a Library Space

Study RoomStudy Rooms: Study rooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors may be reserved up to a week in advance. Unless otherwise indicated, group study rooms are equipped with a computer and whiteboard. Individual study rooms do not have a computer or whiteboard. 477E does not have a computer, but it is equipped with a wireless display for presenting group projects from a personal laptop. Study rooms are checked out at the Service Desk. Usage policy.

Graduate Student Reading Room: The Graduate Student Reading Room is on the 2nd floor of the library, in Room 263. Graduate Students can access the room by swiping their MTSU ID card.

Presentation Practice Room Presentation Practice Room: Practice and record your presentation. One large group study room on the 2nd floor (248B) is equipped with a large wall-mounted monitor and a recording device to allow students to practice and record presentations. The Presentation Practice Room is checked out at the MakerSpace desk. Usage policy.

Makerspace Green Screen Room: The Multi-Purpose MakerSpace Room (201D) is for various MakerSpace activities including Green Screen shoots, Tech Coach sessions for software in the Mac Lab and the MakerSpace, Virtual Reality class assignments.

A microphoneMakerSpace Podcasting Studio: Record a podcast with 4 participants. Bring a micro SD card or a USB-C enabled device to save your recording.

Video camera lensEasy Recording Studio: Available for students, staff, and faculty to record final presentations including videos for your classes, micro lectures, short how-to demonstrations, and speeches. Bring a Flash drive to save your recording or save to your OneDrive. The Easy Recording Studio is checked out at the MakerSpace desk.

Student Research Carrels

Students working on long-term research projects may apply for a study carrel along the back of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. Carrels on the 4th floor are reserved for graduate students. Student Research Carrels are individual units with a work surface and a small lockable storage area for books and papers. Complete the linked form and return it to the Service Desk on the 1st floor. Research Office Spaces

Walker Library offers a limited number of reservable research offices to faculty and graduate students on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors at no cost. These spaces are furnished with a desk, chair, shelving, and lockable drawers. No technology is provided. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Faculty

A small number of rooms are available to faculty. Faculty members may request a room by submitting an application to the library’s 4th Floor Administrative Office or by contacting Christy Groves at christy.groves@mtsu.edu or 615-898-2652. The Provost’s Office will review all faculty applications for approval.

Graduate Students

The library has twenty-two (22) individual research rooms available to graduate students. The library also offers several two-person, shared research offices for graduate students. Graduate students may request one of these research spaces by submitting a form to the library’s 4th Floor Administrative Office or by contacting Christy Groves at christy.groves@mtsu.edu or 615-898-2652. Please note: Graduate students will need to complete a form and obtain a faculty member’s signature to be assigned a research space.
