Architecture Pops Up

There are certain subjects that perennially draw the attention of paper engineers—among others, fairy tales, wildlife, outer space, human bodies, and the alphabet.  Architecture also attracts the imagination of paper engineers. In fact, several notable paper engineers were trained as architects, a group that includes Vojtěch Kubašta, Yūsuke Ōno, and Jan Pieńkowski. Within the Dimensional and Artists’ Books  Collection, dozens of titles focus on famous architects, landmark buildings in cities around the world, particular kinds of buildings, and vernacular architecture. We keep waiting for pop-ups about the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, I.M Pei, Marcel Breuer, and Rem Koolhaus.
