Defining Your Journal

Basic Journal Information

In order to set up your journal, we will need the following information prior to or during this meeting in order to create a shell site:

  • Journal name
  • Preferred abbreviation of the journal
  • Primary contact information (name, email)
  • Names and emails of editorial team
  • Brief description of the journal to be displayed on the library's journal page
  • ISSN or EISSN if applicable

After you have submitted the above information using the Journal Basic Setup Form, we will create your shell site and provide you with login instructions. At this point, more information is needed. We cannot submit a Library of Congress (LOC) application for an ISSN/EISSN, apply for indexing in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and implement other important indexing processes without the following information:

  • Journal focus and scope
  • Editorial workflow and role assignments
  • Submission process
  • Copyright and open access policies
  • Creative Commons licensing
  • Logo (not required but does make journal look more official)
  • Ethics statement (optional but encouraged)

For more information on designing and developing a journal, see Section 3 of the Journal Hosting Guide.

More Information

We have created a document with guidance and suggestions to help determine a journal's scope, focus, and aim; section policies; publication frequency; editorial team management; and the ethics statement/policy. This document is attached below. To see the entire Journal Hosting Guide, see the top box of each tab.
