Affordable Course Materials Grant Awardees

Seven faculty projects have been selected for Walker Library’s second round of Affordable Course Materials Grants. Interest in the program was strong again this year, highlighting our faculty’s dedication to textbook affordability and student success.

Together, these projects are expected to save MTSU students more than $203,000 each year while expanding access to high-quality, zero-cost learning materials.

The Affordable Course Materials Grant program is made possible through generous financial support from the Provost.

2025-2026 award recipients:

Dr. Scott McDaniel, Department of University Studies, will create a customized, zero-cost open educational resource package for MATH 1000: Essentials of Mathematics.

Dr. Amy Sayward, Department of History, will co-author an OER textbook for HIST 2030: Tennessee History.

Dr. Nour Kattih, Department of Economics and Finance, will adapt existing open resources to be piloted in ECON 2410: Principles of Macroeconomics.

Dr. Kim Godwin, Dr. Katherine Mangione, & Dr. Stacy Fields, College of Education, will create a new OER textbook on Classroom Management and Organization to be used across four courses: ECE 4220/4240, ELED 4340, MLED 4340, and YOED 3000.

Dr. Janet Colson and Dr. Sarah Harris, Department of Human Sciences, will update the existing OER textbook used in NFS 1240: Introduction to Nutrition and Wellness and will create additional resources aligned with True Blue Core outcomes.

Dr. Carmelita Dotson and Scott Coble, Department of Social Work, will adapt and integrate high-quality open resources into a unified curriculum for SW 2750: Introduction to Substance Abuse.

Dr. Andrea Georgiou, Department of Aerospace, will adapt and pilot an OER textbook for AERO 1010: Introduction to Aerospace.

About the Affordable Course Materials Grant Program

These small grants provide funding and hands-on support for faculty to adopt, adapt, or create zero-cost course materials for an existing or new course. Course materials may include textbooks as well as any other materials used for teaching, such as videos, slide decks, podcasts, or other supplementary materials. Program goals include reducing the costs of required course materials for MTSU students, encouraging and supporting the use of open educational resources by MTSU instructors, and empowering instructors to adopt, adapt, and create course materials that meet their pedagogical needs.
