To access this resource, visit: are a collection of highly curated corpora (or collections of text) designed for searching text from a range of resources to observe language, variation, and change between specified dates on specific items. Many of these are considered to be large monitor corpora, used to observe practices that are both emergent and falling out of favor in contemporary use. offers 17 discrete corpora, representing a range of different kinds of language in use (generalized news discourse online, more specific news, Wikipedia, American Soap Operas, historical English) as well as two national corpora (which observe a specific form of English - in this case, historical Canadian and British English). Most of the corpora included cover at least one dialect if not multiple dialects of English (such as British, American, Canadian English). Two corpora, News on the Web (NOW) and the Coronavirus corpus, continue to be updated daily to reflect ongoing linguistic practices.

Follow the instructions below to create an account. If you have questions about this resource, please contact the library.

  1. Begin the process at
  2. Complete the registration form using your MTSU email address.
  3. If you are a graduate student, select "Graduate Student: not languages or linguistics" regardless of your program or department.
  4. If you are a professor, be prepared to provide a publicly-accessible MTSU URL with your name on it (faculty department listing or MTSU directory listing are two options).
  5. While waiting for a confirmation email to arrive, you will be prompted to choose Middle Tennessee State University from the list of subscribed universities. This step is crucial to accessing the benefits of MTSU's license.
  6. Click on the link in the confirmation email you receive (employees, if the confirmation email doesn't arrive, check your Proofpoint quarantine).
  7. After registration, you can access directly without first visiting the library's website. You will need to connect through the library's link once every 365 days to maintain your account.
