Community-Engaged Pedagogy Toolkit: What is Community-Engaged Pedagogy?

A toolkit of resources supporting faculty involved in community-engaged teaching and learning MTSU.

Community-Engaged Pedagogy is a high-impact educational practice involving learning with a community partner, outside of a traditional classroom setting.

According to authors Marshall Welch and Star Plaxton-Moore:

The practice of community-engaged teaching requires one to work through a pragmatic process of cocreating student learning and positive social change with multiple stakeholders...

In essence, a community-engaged course is defined by its purpose, process, and relationships (43).
