Leaf from Bible (from the book of Kings) Printing did not lower the price of books, chiefly because paper—made one sheet at a time—was quite expensive. But in 1491, Johann Froben of Basel was the first printer to put forward a small-format Bible known as “the poor man’s Bible.” Hieronymus de Paganini, printer of this leaf, likely copied Froben’s production values for his 1497 book, cutting costs and keeping the price low by using small type in double columns.

Gutenberg Bible – facsimile (1450) Vol. 1-2 consists of a facsimile reprint of the Mazarin Library copy of the Gutenberg Bible; vol. 3-4 contains historical background, a list of all known copies of the Gutenberg Bible, transcription, and translation into English.

Bay Psalm facsimile The Whole Booke of Psalmes Faithfully Translated into English Metre, commonly called the Bay Psalm Book is the first book published in British North America. It was printed in 1640 in Cambridge, Massachusetts on a printing press owned by Elizabeth Glover and printed by Stephen Daye. It is made up of 148 quarto leaves. This book is a facsimile of the first edition imprinted in 1640.

The Christian: being a course of practical sermons

Several Discourses Preached at the Temple Church by Thomas Sherlock Sherlock was a bishop in the Church of England. A prolific writer, he published several theological works and at least four volumes of sermons. Our book by Sherlock was owned by and bear the signature of the Rev. William Douglas, a tutor to James Monroe, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.

19th & 20th Centuries

Wendel Family Papers This collection contains correspondence, wills, obituaries, and miscellaneous business and personal papers of David Wendel and his family. Materials date as early as 1814. Folder 6b contains notes from church meetings (April 1874) at the Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro.
