Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve your mental, emotional and physical. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact.
Find something that will make your life better. It could be cleaning your space, going for a walk, meeting up with a friend or making an appointment with a counselor.
Find ways you can incorporate it into your life daily/weekly/monthly.
Set a goal - make sure your goal is realistic!
Find support. If your self-care activity is something you can do with another person find someone who also likes that activity!
Understand that it takes time to build a routine. Don't stress if you don't do it perfectly. Think of it as practice.
Self-indulgence or using substances that soothe us. Just because something is soothing does not mean we should use it as our sole method of self-care. Be mindful of using alcohol and sweets as self-care.
Selfish – You must meet your own needs before you can help others.
Always relaxing – sometimes self-care involves doing hard things that will better our lives like budgeting, setting boundaries or exploring our emotions.
A reward. Self-care should be continually practiced no matter what you’ve accomplished.
