Private letters, land documents, and diaries of Landon Carter
(1710-1778) and his son Robert Wormeley Carter (1734-1798) of
Richmond County, Virginia. Correspondence is mostly of a political
nature, with major emphasis on the Revolution. Diaries contain
observations on medical, agricultural, and personal topics as well
as politics.
Charles Carroll Papers MFM 206
Charles Carroll (1737-1832) was a propertied Maryland gentleman, a
member of the Committee of Correspondence, an unsuccessful
commissioner to Canada "to promote or form a union" between Canada
and the colonies, delegate to the Continental Congress, and
the representative from Maryland in the first federal Congress
until 1782. When he died in 1832 he was considered the wealthiest
citizen of the United States and was the last surviving signer of
the Declaration of Independence. Most of the original papers in
this
collection are located at the Maryland Historical Society.
The Hamond Naval Papers, 1766-1825 MFM 26
This collection from the University of Virginia Library contains
the papers of Captain Andrew Shape Hamond (1766-1783) and those
of his son, Admiral Graham Eden Hamond (1799-1825). A.S. Hamond's
papers are primarily concerned with British naval operations
during the American Revolutionary War and G.E. Hamond's papers are
primarily concerned with British naval operations in the
Napoleonic era, particularly in the Mediterranean theater.
